Cape Buffalo, it’s probably the most dangerous wild bovine in the world and one of Africa’s most feared giants, which has rightly earned it nicknames like “the Black Death” or even “the Widow Maker” – and what’s more: it apparently has an intelligence to match that notorious status. African buffaloes are smart enough to have developed, over the years of evolution, an altruistic behavior that makes them vigorously rescue herd members in danger – “You mess with one, and you mess with the herd” also have sharp memory that lets them recognize old foes and predators like lions and trophy hunting humans.
